CHAPTER TEN
WREN
If I had a mirror I know I would see my eyes bugging like a cartoon character. Bastian said a lot, confessed a lot more. His openness discussing what he felt when he first saw me, how those feelings affected him, how I affected him was such a pleasant surprise.
Bastian was not a ‘let’s sit and talk about our feelings’ kind of a guy. His style was to grunt, growl and order, so to hear the depth of emotion in his voice, and visually see the truth of those words reflecting in his eyes … I felt like crying for joy.
Creeping my hands from his chest, I wrapped them around his strong thick neck, desperate to keep him close. We were so close, him on his knees in between my legs, his lips still settled on mine, and one arm snaked around my hip, holding me to him.
This new closeness between us didn’t feel awkward, and the intensity wasn’t uncomfortable. It was new definitely, but the rightness of it settled around us like a warm embrace, I only had one thing to do before I could finally relax and enjoy our new version of us.
Feeling comforted by Bastian’s warm breath on my face, and the fact he didn’t want to let me go, I had a feeling of calm wash over me despite what I had to tell him.
“That day, I had been so excited and nervous, getting ready for the celebration. I had already made the decision to tell you how I felt about you and to ask you if we could give a relationship a go. I remember picking out the perfect outfit, hoping to wow you with how much more weight I had lost while you were away.”
Bastian opened his mouth to no doubt scold me with his growls but I quickly pressed my lips to his, mainly because I couldn’t take their close proximity any longer, but also because I wasn’t telling him this to make him feel bad or to get a compliment from him about my body.
He had to understand where my headspace had been at that time, how vulnerable I was when mum dropped the lie on me.
“Shh, I am not telling you this to make you feel bad Bast, I need you to see where my mind was at the time. You know better than anyone my struggles with weight and body confidence, you talked me off a ledge many a time,” I explained, hoping to stop a Bastian style tirade. He took my beating myself up over my weight very personally, it was the topic of just about every one of our arguments, although they never got as heated as this last one.
“Why can’t you see what I see, baby?” Bastian sighed, gently bumping his forehead against mine twice. “You are beautiful and curvy. You have the sweetest way about you but you have a hidden fire you save just for me,” Bastian said with a smirk, “as far as I am concerned– you are perfect Wren … perfect for me,” he whispered softly but firmly.
